1. What was your earliest ambition?
    • To have an office with my name on the door.
  2. Public school or state school? University or straight into work?
    • State school, straight to work, then Durham University aged 27 and Imperial College aged 32.
  3. What did you do for money aged 16?
    • Worked in Woolworths and rented out Sky TV videos to friends at school.
  4. Who was or still is your mentor?
    • I have a network of mentors I guess – I ask different people different things a lot. I still turn to my parents and my mates Justin and Jon for general stuff.
  5. How physically fit are you?
    • I think I’m reasonably fit for the hours I work. I’ve done a few marathons and ultras – that experience still pays off so I can run for ages even if I haven’t in a while.
  6. How politically committed are you?
    • Not very. I vote and watch BBC Question Time but I’m not politically active.
  7. Do you consider your carbon footprint?
    • Not really – I don’t travel very much.
  8. Do you have more than one business?
    • I have equity in more than one but I only run 9others.
  9. What’s your biggest extravagance?
    • Posh coffee in decent London cafes.
  10. In what place are you happiest?
    • Coming home after a long run.

  12. What drives you on?
    • If I’ve done it, it must be easy. If I haven’t, I must.
  13. What is the greatest achievement of your life so far?
    • My kids.
  14. What has been your greatest disappointment?
    • I haven’t got a Porsche 911 yet.
  15. If you lost all material possessions later today, what would you do in the morning?
    • Buy a laptop and get on with it.
  16. Do you believe in assisted suicide?
    • We haven’t really sorted ‘end of life’. I’m in favour of the choice of the individual.
